When thrifting, it is important to know your measurements. It ensures that you will purchases pieces that fit your body perfectly. If you are a seamstress, ignore this article. You can easily tailor your shirt, skirt, pants, etc to correct the fitting issue. But for the average thrifter, you need to know your number.

You will need a plastic measuring tape. For obvious reasons, do not use a metal or firm measuring tape. Your only concern is finding 3 numbers for 3 areas. The first number refers to your bust size. The second number refers to your waist size. The third number refers to your hips size. Write down your numbers and place it in your wallet. Now you will always have your number with you when you shop.

How To Take Your Body Measurements:

A. Bust: Place one end of the measuring tape at the fullest part of the bust and wrap the measuring tape around. You want to get the measurement for the circumference of your chest. Typically, to get your true size, it is advised to take your measurement when your naked, but since you are a thrifter, you need to take the measurement with a brassiere on because, more then likely, you are going to be wearing the top with a bra.

B. Waist: In order to get your waist measurement, you will first need to identify your waistline. Your waistline is found above your belly button and below your rib cage. If you have trouble finding it, bend to the side. Where the crease forms is your waistline. Place one end of the tape and wrap it around the same way you did to get your bust measurement. Again, avoid making it too tight or too loose. Also, avoid the urge to suck in your stomach to get a smaller number.

If you typically wear jeans below your waistline, take your measurement at that point. This will ensure that the items purchased will fit and fall properly.

C. Hips: To measure the circumference of your hips, stand with your feet together. Place one end of the tape at one hip and wrap the measuring tape around the other hip. You should end where you began. Make sure the tape is around the largest part of your bum.

Now that you know your number, now what!!!  Stay tuned for more
