Being In The Know: Thrift Stores VS. Consignments

Thrift Stores and Consignment Shops may be similar in nature but they differ in some areas.  How, you might ask... Don't worry! I will help you out.    

Similarities 

• Both sell pre-owned clothes, jewelry, household appliances, etc..
• They are typically priced lower than the retail price
• Items may be brand new (with  tags)    
  

Differences 

Thrift Stores

• Donate pre-owned items (free of charge)
• Accepts all items (new/old) 
• Fewer name brand items (But they do have them)
• Higher value of knock offs
• Items tend to be inexpensive ($20<)                    

Consignment

• Option to sell pre-owned clothes in exchange for money or store credit
• Limitation of accepted items based on how old or out of date the item(s)
• Mostly name brand items sold
• Higher value of authentic items
• Pieces sold tend to be more expensive ($20<)

Personally, I lean towards thrift stores! Mainly because it's cheaper. I don't mind using creativity to style. Actually, I think outfits turn out better when creativity is in the mix. 

Consignment shops are equally as wonderful, but I don't require name brand items. However, when I randomly find a name brand item that I actually like in the thrift store, I have the biggest smile on my face.  The best way to describe that feeling is like winning a race after you were at the back of the pack or like getting your favorite meal after you gone without it for awhile. The feeling of pure satisfaction.
