My style is very versatile. It has definitely evolved over time based on my maturity. My style doesn't stick to a particular trend. It consist of a little street wear and class depending on the mood that I'm feeling on that particular day. All in all my style describes me as a person.

The [M I X E D] Print X Bella Estraneo

12/10/2013

The Color Tag is thrilled to have Barbara, better known as Bella Estraneo or the Beautiful Stranger, as a guest writer . Her style is unique, trendy, and, most definitely, fashion forward. Not only is she stylish, but she is also the founder of Bella Estraneo.  What makes her the best is that she's an avid thrifter. Her fashion blog is filled with trends, helpful tips, personal picks, DIYs, and a dash of beauty. Let's see what she has to say.

" Let me start off by saying that history repeats itself, and so does fashion. With that being said, thrifting is a great way to build up a wardrobe. I have been a passionate thrifter for some time now. When I first step foot into a thrift or vintage shop my first instinct is to look for staple pieces and unique items. A staple piece for me could be a great pair of leather trousers, or a unique vintage coat. I enjoy the treasure hunt that is thrifting, because when you stumble upon something you absolutely adore there is a simultaneous feeling of excitement, joy, and accomplishment circulating through the body. I am currently obsessed with the vintage prints and patterns found in thrift stores all over. I love to pair varied prints together to add new dimensions to my looks. Currently, I am obsessed with flirty silhouettes accompanied by single soled pumps, and I love how prints make that POP.

My Thrift Tip for The Color Tag readers is to mix prints!

Picture

The mixing of prints became very popular during the 80s and has managed to transcend to now. It adds intrigue and an interesting aesthetic to classic silhouettes. From a single soled pump to an outrageous blazer and a fit ‘n’ flare skirt. One of my favorite celebrity styles is Solange Knowles. She has a way with prints that comes off so natural and effortless. If you’re afraid of prints, I suggest that you begin with timeless prints like the forever loved polka dot or stripes. These prints are able to act as neutrals or bases to any outfit. You can also find prints that have complimentary hues and tones that can easily be figured out using a basic color wheel. Don’t forget that printed shoes and bags add the same intrigue and variety to an outfit, so during your next trip to the thrift be on the lookout for timeless prints that scream variety, but also represent your personality! "

"I’m an avid thrifter myself and a total believer in looking chic for a low price. A typical day of thrifting for me consist of label hunting..I have to admit, I’m quite the label collector. My best thrift find thus far has been my white Chanel rain boots. They’re my everything. The more wear and tear I put on them - the more I find myself falling in love with what they represent - a timeless piece of art. With that being said, my favorite trend to accent my favorite piece at the moment is monochromatic styling. I like to style my all white Chanel boots with white demin, a long sleeve button up & my white peacoat. I mean, Coco Chanel herself wore white all year, so why can’t I?  If you’re going to break a fashion rule though you must go all out! Therefore, if you’re going to go black - go ALL black from head to toe. If you’re going to go oxblood - go full oxblood down to your socks.

My fashion tip for The Color Tag followers is to pick hues that accent their hair color, skin, and eyes !

For instance, I have brown hair, light skin, and dark brown eyes so royal blue, kelly green, and burgundy accents my features well. Let’s take red hair (since this hair color seems to be trending at the moment) - if I were going to go monochromatic *I would chose natural tones to accent my hair color such as camel, military green, beige, or even black.  These colors are dull compared to such a statement hair color such as red so it accents it well. An easy way to pull off a monochrome ensemble for the first time would be finding a good fitting blazer, apeplum and skirt of a similar hue, and shoes and a clutch to match. Make sure your tones vary but are close enough to convey your monochromatic look and you’re good to go!"
