DIY UPCYCLED BLAZER

“Creativity Is Allowing Yourself To Make Mistakes. Art Is Knowing Which Ones To Keep.” ~ Scott Adams

I've always wanted a jacket with leather sleeves. So of course NIFTY THRIFTY found a way to make that happen.
Last weekend, I hit the ground running and went thrifting in Memphis. I snagged two blazers (among other items) at Goodwill for $4.99 a piece which means this jacket cost a grand total of $9.00!

Usually, I wouldn't share my DIY project secrets (obvious lie hence this blog) but  I love you, loyal viewer!
I'll walk you through this DIY step by step... Just Click Below

Mad Hatter

Five panel, messenger, sunhats, fedoras, beanies….There’s so many variations of hats. It seems as if each one is becoming more unique that the next. It’s never the wrong season to wear a hat, which makes them a fashion enthusiast’s best friend. The challenge is deciding which one is the best to wear for the occasion, which doesn’t have to be such a challenge after all. If you’re going for the casual look, a five panel hat or a beanie can be stylish, and still pulled off as relaxed look. Need something a little more dapper? Throw on a messenger hat, or a fedora.

Fashionable Thrift Tip: The most important thing about choosing the perfect hat is remembering that when it comes to what you put on your noggin, opposites attract. If you’re wearing a neutral outfit, try a bright or printed hat. When wearing an outfit with multiple, bold colors, a neutral hat would be the perfect compliment.

Another factor when choosing a hat is proportion. When you’re sporting a loose-fit outfit, a fitted cap is best, and if your outfit hugs your body a bold size hat, such as a sun hat will look incredible. But ultimately, it’s up to you. The possibilities are endless.

Take Cover With Winter Accessories

It's cold in Atlanta. Well let me correct myself... it's cold in the morning and it's colder at night, which can only mean that winter is right around the corner. So what does that mean for us fashion forward females? Resolve: WE NEED ACCESSORIES! I am not talking about jewelry (even though that's easiest way to transform any look). I'm talking about hats, gloves, and scarves.  Think of these items as your new add-ons to your already fabulous thrifted jewels. Now is the time, if you haven't done so already, to start looking for your thrifted outer coat accessories.

Thrift Tip: It's always great to go rack by rack, but if you want to have the best thrifted outer coat accessories, go to that section first. Since it's typically the smallest category in any thrift store, you want to be one of the lucky ones to thrift the good stuff. This section is usually sprinkled throughout the store. I have seen it near the register or in a small metal bin hovered over a random rack, but even I, the thrift store guru, have trouble locating it at times. If you're having issues finding this section, ask an employee. They are always willing to help and they know the thrift store like the back of their hand.

The first 'must-have' to staying fashionable despite colder temperatures is a few decent leather pieces. That includes jackets, jeans, skirts, gloves, hats, etc. You can never go wrong with any black leather piece, but that can get boring QUICK. Mix it up and have fun on your thrifted hunt for leather pieces. Having a wide range of color in your thrifted leather selection would put you ahead of the pack. Trendy colors for the fall are going to be , of course, the neutral colors, but try stepping outside of your comfort zone. Add some PLUM and Emeralds! Don't forget the BURNT ORANGE and the vibrant REDS!

You'll have better thrift store luck when you have an idea in mind. These are a few items I would love to score on my next thrift store run! Uses these images as inspiration for your thrift store treasure hunt!
