We have exciting news for you, our loyal viewer!! Nifty Thrifty has moved to Memphis. So what does that mean for The Color Tag? We are expanding to a new city. We’re now able to explore more thrift stores and provide you with a new category of thrifting…
Home Décor.

Two weeks ago, I moved into a beautiful one bedroom loft located downtown Memphis. This lovely new home will soon reflect my personality using a mixture of items that I have previously, purchased at the thrift/discounted stores and upcycled/repurposed.

We are excited!!!! What about you?

The Most Important accessory

While The Color Tag is a fashion blog, we also focus on developing the whole person. Too many of us rely on materialistic items to provide us with the validation we seek. We use clothing to hide our imperfections or what we perceive to be our imperfections in order to gain instant approval from others. I'm not saying boycott designers. I'm just saying, confidence is very much essential in your daily looks.

When I saw this video on  UPWORTHY.com, I knew I had to share. I feel that as people, women especially, we are our own worst critic and sometimes we just need to be reminded that we are all beautiful... flaws and all! The faster you realize this, the easier it'll be to get dressed from day to day. You'll make anything fashionable. At the end of the day, you wear the clothes!

"The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years."

The thoughts from A Hippie [ At HEART ]

“Anyone can get dressed up and be glamorous, but it is how people dress in their days off that are the most intriguing.”

Thrift Thoughts: Some times the best way to start your thought is with definition... with that being said, what's the definition of Hippie?
Defintion: (esp. a person in the 1960s) a person of unconventional appearance, typically having long hair and wearing beads, associated with a subculture involving a rejection of conventional values and the taking of hallucinogenic drugs. This definition best fits me (excluding the hallucinogenic drugs lol).

As a avid thrifter, I feel that I go about fashion in the most unconventional manor. To correct myself, I DO go about fashion in an unconventional manor. Growing up I was surround by girls that could afford to pay $300+ for designer labels. I have literally seen girls spend their last dollar on a pair of shoes or a shirt all for the "love" of fashion. As I dive deeper into this thrifting realm, I realize that it is more to life than labels. Fashion is really is what you make out of it and I am glad that thrift stores, consignment shops, and vintage stores were able to serve as my outlet. I was about to strip myself of labels, even though I have found many designer labels in the thrift store, and use my apparel as an expression of my thoughts and feelings of that day.

To refer back to this post, I am truly a hippie at heart. If I could walk around all day, look at nature, and absorb its wonderful natural remedies, I would. If I could sit on the beach and watch the sunset while my feet are half buried in sand with the slightest kiss from the ocean and a bonfire burning in the background, I would. But reality hits and I am in Atlanta, GA. A landlocked state.I get to escape reality and feel all these feelings in my attire. I feel that actors would understand this concept most. They become whatever character they are for whatever play.  Today, I was lifted from this area and was gently placed in land surrounded by calm and soothing sounds. I wasn't Vivian or Nifty Thrifty for that matter. I just... WAS

Thrifted Thoughts: I love to change the usage of items. I have taken plenty of skirts or oversized sweater and made them into a dresses. This time, I upcycled this plain and ordinary cardigan into a sexy peak-a-boo top. I added a belt around the waist to add shape and, also, to secure the top in place. Trust me, I was secure! I jumped around my room to double check lol. All in all, I love this look!!!! It is very different and yet still falls into the fall color trend (Green).

GOOD NEWS: This shirt (upcycled Cardigan) is available for purchase! Click the Shop tab to own it!
